*** Andy Steere's Alfa Corsair ***

These are pictures and movies of the Alfa Corsair in flight... and will get updated from time to time. In order from oldest to newest, top to bottom. As of July 18th, I have 17 flights and a bit over 3 hours of actual flight time. The 1500mah batteries allow very agressive 15-20 minute flights... but could be stretched to 30 minutes or longer with throttle management (read no full-throttle passes).

MOVIE CLIPS

(Choose a format to view by clicking on one of the two links provided. The native format for the video camera (Olympus C-700UZ) is Apple Quicktime MOV. This version will produce the best picture and sound possible, but the file sizes are large. The Microsoft AVI files were converted using Lead Multimedia Converter and while much smaller... their image quality suffers (a lot on some movies, very little on others). If you have trouble viewing these by directly clicking on the link, try right-clicking on the link, choose save to disk, and play the video ouside the browser. The MOV files require Apple Quicktime player or plugin, and the AVI files require Microsoft Windows Media Player or similar. The AVI files are converted using an Indeo video codec, if you have trouble viewing the video.)

First flight! Jeff Paul is on the camera. He launched the corsair, so no pics of takeoff. Most of this pass was at less than half throttle. Prop is an APC 9x6 slow-flyer.

Another half-throttle pass... with a full throttle pull to vertical. The model pulls pretty strong to the left at full throttle and has no rudder... otherwise it would have unlimited (out of sight) vertical.

Second Flight. Part of a "show pass", up into sort of a hammer-head.

A pass at close to full throttle, then backed off to half throttle after the turn.

06/06/2004 - 8th flight. Had changed to an APC 8x8 Thin-E on the 3rd flight. The higher speed lets you start to hear the whistle sound the airframe makes going through the air. The fullscale did this too... and was known by the Japanese by the nickname "whistling death".

06/20/2004 - 11th flight. Carl flew it most of this flight while I manned the camera. Dark rain clouds dot the sky. Carl does a nice roll above the runway.
