(FLIGHTS)

August 25, 2002 update!

The ARF has flown several times now and the RCS 140 seems strong and running great! It will be a good engine for the P-47. No fear of leaving it in the ARF permanently, as it really isn't enough power for that airplane. We'll fly it the rest of this year, repair the P-47 wing as my winter project, and it will be back and flying spring of 2003.

July 25, 2002 update! (long overdue)

My engine running issue caught up with me, a deadstick at a bad place... and the P-47's wing is back on the repair bench. The engine was sent to RCS for evaluation. It's back now, after the hall-sensor (sp) was replaced. Instead of putting it back into the P-47... I've purchsed an ARF and will put it in there as a test-bed. The repair of the wing will become my winter project and if the engine proves itself to be reliable, it will be reinstalled into the P-47. If I continue to have problems with the engine... I'll figure out something else.

At this point I must say that I am thrilled with the service that I have received from RC Showcase and would strongly recommend them to anyone looking for a gas engine.

Check back for further updates! (last modified 07/25/02) I hope to have the ARF ready by the first weekend of August and will update this page with the results of the engine test.

As of May 26th, 2002, my P-47 is back in operation from its dreadful first flight. Second flight went without a hitch with flying... or landing. The landing on the second flight went perfectly, though I don't have any video to prove it. Nobody wanted to man the camera while I flew. Carl said something about jinxing the flight if we recorded it. I don't know about all that, but I wish I had video to review.

I still have an engine running issue... a new one this time. It seems to be cutting out... like an ignition problem. I upgraded the battery I had originally (a 4-cell 600mah battery from Hitec) with a 1800mah 4-cell Nicad pack from Radical R/C. It replaced some lead that was required in the nose to balance. I'm going to re-evaluate how things are wired... as some of the ignition wiring comes close to the shielded spark-plug wire.

MOVIE CLIPS

(Choose a format to view by clicking on one of the two links provided. The native format for the video camera (Olympus C-700UZ) is Apple Quicktime MOV. This version will produce the best picture and sound possible, but the file sizes are large. The Microsoft AVI files were converted using Lead Multimedia Converter and while much smaller... their image quality suffers (a lot on some movies, very little on others). If you have trouble viewing these by directly clicking on the link, try right-clicking on the link, choose save to disk, and play the video ouside the browser. The MOV files require Apple Quicktime player or plugin, and the AVI files require Microsoft Windows Media Player or similar. The AVI files are converted using an Indeo video codec, if you have trouble viewing the video.)
