MOVIE CLIPS

(These movies were produced using Arcsoft's Video Impression 2. In the WMV windows format, the 384Kbps size may run better on slower computers, and are quite a bit smaller than the 768Kbs versions without loosing much quality. If you have a fast computer and connection, get the 768Kbps version... otherwise try the 384Kbps. Some of the movies are in AVI format (when that produced a smaller movie file). If you have trouble viewing these by directly clicking on the link, try right-clicking on the link, choose save to disk, and play the video ouside the browser.)

12/31/2004 - Flight #12. First clips with the new camera. Several folks at the field today, so I was answering a few questions while I flew. Discovered a few issues with the camera (Minolta Z3). It's automatic color balance and exposure are way off when pointed up at the sky (the clips are color corrected as much as my limited tools would allow). It also has a lot of trouble focusing on things in the air. Prefers to focus on the bright clouds instead of the dark airplane flying in front of them.
4:52 minutes (WMV - 320x240-384Kbps - 12.3MB) (WMV - 320x240-768Kbps - 24.2MB)

01/09/2005 - Flight #14. This is a movie of the entire flight. I landed when the low-voltage-cutoff of the ESC started to kick in at full throttle, which at this temperature (45F) was about 2/3'rds the way through the 1500mah pack. Just having fun with the plane... not trying to do any formal routine. If anything, I was working on transitions out of a hover. Instead of just falling out of it and having to recover... I'm trying to transition into other flight modes... such as a knife edge harrier. Still doing most of my 3D at a pretty high altitude, especially in a 10mph wind... and I seem to fly in circles more than hanging on the prop. Oh well... that will change eventually. I am more careful with this plane than with my foamy... but still ring it out pretty good in places. About 3/4 the way in, I did a nose-high pirouette kind of thing. Looked cool as heck, but I'm not sure if I can duplicate it on command. Will try next time. I've worked out some of the camera issues by setting single-autofocus and manual color balance. Still working on exposure control, as it required brightening during movie creation. Movie shot in native 640x480x15fps mode (218MB original size), so there are both 320x240 and 640x480 versions. There is also a version with background music... PG-13 rated, but seemed appropriate and helps the time go by.
11:30 minutes (AVI - 320x240 - 19.3MB) (AVI - 640x480 - 34.1MB) (AVI - 320x240 w/music - 20.0MB)
