It is always fun going to a new show. You see a
few familiar faces, and often times many new ones. This year was
the first we traveled to the Mississippi Afterburner jet meet. It
was moved this year a bit further south, to Jackson, Mississippi.
The airport orientation was such that you could fly as long as
your kerosene lasted, and you had charge in your batteries. I
don't know the final pilot count, but I would guess in the 50-75
range. Weather was a bit warm, but not to bad at all. Overall, it
was a well run event, and we had a great time.
One side note, was that the JPO president , Steve Ellzey gave a
little talk Saturday night at the banquette. Personally, I did
not know that only a third of the jet pilots belong to JPO. No
wonder AMA does not give them the weight they deserve. Please
join JPO if you have not already. Their membership is only in the
300's and it is thought there are over 1000 turbine pilots out
and about. Every person adds up, when it comes to having weight
with the AMA and negotiating rules we all can live with to enjoy
the hobby.
