*** Andy Steere's Lanier Razor 3-D Build Page Two***

These pictures show the assembly process of the Lanier Razor 3-D ARF, as it progressed from early December, 2003. This is a continuation of images on Page One.

It was at this point that I decided to convert this to an electric model. I was looking at having to completly replace my aging glow field equipment with basically all new parts. New starter, fuel pump, power panel, etc. I've had enough of glow fuel!

Electric equipment used:

  • Mega 22/30/2 Brushless Motor
  • Model Electronics Corp "Monsterbox" gearbox at 4.8:1 (96t spur, 20t pinion)
  • Castle Creations Phoenix 80amp Brushless ESC
  • Ultimate-BEC to drive RX and Servos (later replaced with NiMH pack when UBEC failed range test).
  • 16x8 APC Thin-E prop.
  • Four Tanic 3S 2150 Lithium-Polymer batteries, two in series (22.2volts) and two in parallel (4400mah total). Rated at 12C discharge (12 times capacity), or 51.6 amps continuous with much higher burst capacity.
  • 30amp Anderson connectors on each battery pack, 45amp connectors to ESC, Safety "Key", and motor.

This combination produces about 1200 watts (60amps @ 20v under load) and nearly 10 pounds of thrust, spinning the 16x8 at 7000rpm. However, this much power is rarely needed. Most of the flight is half throttle.

I guess this could be called an...

    Electric Razor!!!
